Elon Musk Fires Twitter Loyalists: ‘i'm Fired'

The sudden layoffs at Twitter happened over the weekend as CEO Elon Musk tries to stabilise the company's finances amid plummeting revenue and severe cost cuts.

The Information was the first to break the story of the layoffs, claiming that the corporation had fired at least 50 people across divisions on Saturday.

Platformer reporter Zo Schiffer tweeted that the layoffs affected even "hardcore Musk fans." A lot of unexpected people were let go, she said. For instance, Twitter Payments CEO Esther Crawford was among those let go, she tweeted. Crawford stated on Twitter at the beginning of November, "When your team is rushing round the clock to make deadlines sometimes you #SleepWhereYouWork."

Martijn de Kuijper, a senior product manager, tweeted that he was unable to access his inbox. For example, in 2021, Twitter bought the editorial newsletter tool Revue from its founder, De Kuijper, who tweeted, "Waking up to find I've been shut out of my email. Apparently, my employment has ended. This concludes the end of my time with Revue.

Almost 70% of Twitter's workforce has been cut and advertising revenue, the firm's primary source of income, has dropped dramatically since Musk seized control of the company in October of last year.

In the midst of the chaos, the company has had some technological difficulties. An error message said "beyond the daily limit for sending tweets" for Twitter users in North America on February 8.

Unfortunately, Twitter might be acting up for some users. Pardon the disruption. The business acknowledged the issue and said it was trying to resolve it in a tweet.

While Musk has tried to diversify the company's revenue streams outside traditional advertising, his efforts have shown little results. Twitter Blue, a paid upgrade that provides users with a blue verification check mark and other benefits per month, is one example of such an initiative. Some 180,000 people had signed up for the programme as of the middle of last month, reports The Information.

Musk calls himself a "free-speech absolutist," therefore many marketers have been cautious about where he might take the platform. Despite the layoffs, Musk still waded into several controversial themes throughout the course of the weekend.

As newspapers throughout the country dropped the "Dilbert" comic strip for comments they termed "racist," "hateful," and "discriminatory," Musk jumped to the defence of the strip's writer, Scott Adams. Adams said that white people should "stay away" from black people because they are part of a "hate group."

Musk wrote on Twitter, "For a very long period, American media was racist against non-white people; now they're racist against whites and Asians. The same thing occurred in America's top high schools and universities. They should stop being racist, for starters.

Musk also praised Woody Harrelson's opening monologue on Saturday Night Live this weekend, which addressed COVID vaccinations and the epidemic. The performer discussed one of the "absurdist scripts" he's ever read.

"'I tossed the script,' he joked. So, you know, who was going to believe that ludicrous plan? The threat of being coerced into using drugs That's what I voluntarily do all day."

In response, Must replied, "So based. Congratulations, @nbcsnl!

Musk responded to a Twitter user who warned of impending meltdowns by asking, "Maybe they [media outlets] don't recognise that their propaganda is wrong?""

As the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that the U.S. Energy Department was leaning towards the COVID lab-leak explanation, following the FBI in this line of thinking, Musk added his two cents to the discussion about the origins of the pandemic.

Musk responded, "Yes," after fellow PayPal alum David Sacks tweeted the piece and claimed that former NIAID director Anthony Fauci and others were behind a disinformation campaign concerning the laboratory origins of the coronavirus.
