کہ آج دل اپنا دکھا نہیں، دوسرا دکھ دیکھیں

یہ وہ شکوہ ہے جس کا کوئی حل نہیں

کہتے ہو ہو کہ دوستو مرا دین زندگی ہے

جب اس دین کے سینے سے نکلتی ہے وہی جہاں روشنی ہے

میں بھی کچھ کہوں، کہاں جانوں کہاں رونقِ عمر ہے

یہ وہی جہاں ہے جو کبھی تھا خوںِ خریدارِ مسلماں

گناہ گار ہوں، بدکار ہوں، شیطان کی نسل ہوں

مگر اے غفلتِ خود پسند! وہ زندہ لاتا ہوں میں

سہی نہیں جو دوستو مجھے نظر آتا نہیں

گر مجھ کو بھی اپنے دین کا ہے تو میں کیا کرتا؟

اے اللہ! تیرے آزاد مریدوں کو صحراوں میں رہنے کی صبر دے

تیری جدائی کو جھیلنے کی طاقت دے

تجھ سے مانگتے ہیں دعا ہم نفسِ ناپسندیدہ بھی

ہم آپ کو کیا کیا نہیں سنایا اے احمدؔؔؔ

کچھ بھی نہیں تیرے سوا، خدایا ہمیں دکھ دے

English Translation of Allama Iqbal Poetry Shikwa جوابِ شکوہ:

Why should I not lament and complain to my God?

My heart's desires have been left unfulfilled.

The nation is in decline, the community in ruins,

The mosque and the temple are barren and lifeless.

The holy land of Hindustan is no longer holy,

The Ganges and Jamuna are flowing with poison.

The melody of the nightingale is silenced,

The rose's fragrance is gone, the garden is empty.

The gardeners have all departed, the flowers are gone,

The nightingales have all flown away to other lands.

The cypress tree no longer sways in the breeze,

The flower beds are barren, the garden is empty.

We have lost our identity, our civilization is dying,

The fire of passion has been extinguished in our hearts.

Our youth have lost their direction, they wander aimlessly,

Our elders are lost in darkness, they have lost their way.

Oh God, why have you forsaken us?

Why have you abandoned us in our time of need?

Have you forgotten your promise to us,

That you would guide and protect us in all our endeavors?

Oh God, hear our prayers, see our tears,

And return to us the glory that was once ours.

Restore to us the faith of our forefathers,

And guide us to the path of righteousness and truth.
