Dave Bautista Says He And Jason Momoa's 'lethal Weapon'-type Buddy Cop Comedy Will Likely Shoot Next Year
Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa have been attempting to make a buddy comedy movie since 2021, and it looks like they'll finally succeed in 2024.
In August 2021, Bautista's tweeting of the following sentence brought the concept into being: "Ready to see what happens once I release this into the ether. Okay, so here we go... David Leitch is directing a buddy cop movie starring Momoa and I in the vein of "Lethal Weapon." Ok! So there you go. We must now patiently wait."
We didn't have to wait too long. Deadline reported in November that MGM had won a bidding war for the film rights to Jonathan Trooper's ("The Adam Project")
There had to be some wiggle room in both actors' schedules. And Bautista thinks it'll finally pan out next year.
Bautista, who begins production on the "My Spy" sequel next month, told Insider, "My schedule is kind of filling in," adding that he believes "Minecraft" will premiere this year and consume the most of his time.
We're looking at early 2024 now," he said. "However, our script is fantastic. MGM remains committed to making this movie. I feel like if I team up with Jason, we could have a real winner."
Momoa, who co-starred with Bautista in "See" and "Dune," hinted at the film on "The Late Late Show with James Corden," around the same time Bautista tweeted out the idea.
"Dave is all about the Speedos, while I prefer the board shorts; if we were to appear in a buddy police movie together, he'd be the grouchy one and I'd be the cute one without our shirts. Boom. It's a no-brainer, dude "His words.
Momoa went on, "I've got the hair, he doesn't have hair." We're able to serve every possible customer base.
Both "Fast X" and "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" will premiere later this year, giving Momoa fans more opportunities to see him in the spotlight. Both "Dune: Part Two" and "Knock at the Cabin," both starring Bautista, will be released this year.
